Who is Kyla Moran?

I'm outspoken, optimistic, and endlessly curious. I'm the youngest of four and might just be a child forever. I like to keep moving, exploring, and experiencing new things - My favorite thing in the world is to travel with new and old friends.

What did you do before modeling?

Before modeling, I was finishing my BS in Environmental Studies and Anthropology in California. After graduating, I took my time driving along the West coast and staying with friends before I moved to New York.

If you weren’t a model what would you be?

If I weren't modeling, I would be finding a way to live abroad for the majority of the year; I considered teaching english in Japan, working on a cruise ship in the Galapagos, working on organic farms through Latin America... I would love to work with kids or animals, but I'll have to cross that bridge when I come to it. The possibilities are endless!

Your personal passion or hidden talents?

I lived on a reserve in Costa Rica one summer studying Capuchin monkeys, so I have experience with field research and primatology, but I would say the biggest talents I picked up from that was dealing with the humidity, having fifty massive bugs hovering around at any given moment, and dodging monkey poo. I'm a tomboy at heart, and I pride myself on being able to handle whatever life throws at me, in whatever state I'm in. After living in Manila for four months, I feel confident that I could live and thrive anywhere in the world, and maybe even have a positive impact while I'm doing it.

Ten years from now (you will be…)?

Either being a bum, living on a house boat with some European boyfriend, wandering and writing, enjoying plenty of wine and picking up new friends along the way... Or working on greening cities or communities in some way... We'll find out soon enough. Ten years doesn't seem all that far away.

Favorite word?:

Nefarious. It's just such a nice way to say evil!.

What’s no fun?

Getting stuck riding your bike behind the garbage truck! Or getting to the gym and realizing you forgot your headphones... Serious first world problems.

Instant gratification?

Flying into Portland, seeing Mt. Hood, and knowing I'll be with my family within the hour.

Current 'eye candy'?

Richard Linklater's new movie Boyhood. I've seen it twice and want to go again; I felt like it was my childhood caught on film.

Favorite movie?

My dog is named after Lelu in The Fifth Element, so that is a definite favorite, but it's hard to pick just one; I also love Momento. I have a really short attention span and because Momento is as spazzy as I am, it was one of few films I could focus on the entire way through, oddly enough.

Something 'Timeless'?

Being polite.

What’s your beauty secret or essential grooming routine?

Coconut oil, for everything. I oil pull in the mornings to whiten my teeth, add a teaspoon to my smoothies, lather it on my hair and face overnight after particularly demanding shoots, and I even put a little in my dog's food to keep her coat shiny. It is the miracle ingredient, I swear.
