Who is Alissa Bourne?

Alissa Bourne is bubbly, blonde, twentysomething model. She’s an extroverted-introvert and wellness junkie who spends her time reading, writing, strength training, exploring and bopping around town—being forever curious and enamored with NYC. 

 What did you do before modeling?

I attended the University of Maryland on soccer scholarship and received a double degree in Finance and Accounting. Following in my parents’ footsteps, I was on the CPA track, but I changed my trajectory shortly after graduation. I couldn’t live that life.

If you weren't a model?

If I wasn’t a Model I would be a Health coach or interior designer. 

Your personal passion or hidden talents? 

I’ve always been passionate about global affairs and diplomacy, so I jumped at the chance to join the Model Ambassador Program (MAP) —an initiative under the Universal Models for Peace, which aims to “create projects in the arts, media, fashion and culture with the ultimate objective of influencing support for the attainments created by the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.” Fashion is a global industry and holds great power and influence. As models, we can utilize our resources and connections to progress philanthropic causes, from garment workers’ rights to more sustainable textiles and manufacturing .

Ten years from now (you will be…)?

I hope to be a “modelpreneur,” as cliché as it sounds. I have a multitude of interests and a style sensibility around which I’d like to build a brand—in the same vein as a Kathy Ireland. Home, fashion, fitness, health food. Why not do it all? Except get married and have kids. To the chagrin of my parents and traditionalists alike, I’ve never fancied the idea of either. 

Favorite word?

Synchronicity. I use it a lot. I liked it even more when I found that it has Jungian psychology roots (because Jung is groovy and seriously knew his shit about psychoanalysis). Moreover, I don’t believe that some supernatural deity is designing my life, but I do delight in the idea of attracting energies. So synchronicity encompasses this idea that some events aren’t directly casual or merely coincidental but are meaningfully related. In the last couple years, I’ve experienced a lot of super strangely synchronistic events.

What’s no fun?

People who talk a lot with nothing to say. Ego masturbators.
